Game 2: TinCaps seek sweep of Hot Rods
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
As always, the Midwest League playoffs unfold quickly. After a 2-1 win Wednesday night at Bowling Green in Game 1, the TinCaps have a chance tonight to sweep the first-round series.
Pedro Avila, who went 7-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 14 regular-season starts with Fort Wayne, takes the mound at Parkview Field. He seems to have an advantage over the Hot Rods' Adrian Navas, who went 12-9 with a 4.73 ERA.
The TinCaps know Navas well because they faced him four times, twice as a starter and twice out of the bullpen. In 13 2/3 innings against Fort Wayne, Navas was charged with 16 earned runs.
Avila has just one game against Bowling Green. On June 25, the 20-year-old right-hander went six innings and gave up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Here's the lineup for Fort Wayne:
Jack Suwinski RF
Nate Easley LF
Hudson Potts 3B
Brad Zunica 1B
Marcus Greene Jr. C
Jorge Ona DH
Gabriel Arias SS
Buddy Reed CF
Reinaldo Ilarraza 2B
And, for the Hot Rods:
Miles Mastrobuoni 2B
Garrett Whitley LF
Josh Lowe CF
Rene Pinto C
Jesus Sanchez DH
Jim Haley 3B
Bobby Melley 1B
Emilio Gustave RF
Luis Rengifo SS
Ch-ch-changes: Whereas A.J. Kennedy started behind the plate in Game 1, TinCaps manager Anthony Contreras is going with superior offensive threat Marcus Greene Jr. tonight. Kennedy's two-run home run Wednesday was Fort Wayne's only offense. Also, Brad Zunica is back in the lineup after sitting Game 1. Kyle Overstreet, who started at first base, is on the bench to start Game 2.
Bowling Green manager Reinaldo Ruiz is running out the same nine as the opener.
