TinCaps' 5-game winning streak ends
The TinCaps' five-game winning streak ended with a 4-3 loss in the series opener at Peoria on Saturday at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois.
Down 4-0, Fort Wayne (15-8 second half, 41-52 overall) made an attempt at a comeback starting with a two-run homer from Jack Suwinski in the fifth that also scored Marcus Green Jr.
Greene hit a solo home run of his own in the seventh to make it 4-3.
Former IPFW pitcher Evan Miller was called up to the TinCaps prior to Saturday's game against Peoria from Short-Season A Tri-City. Miller replaces Will Stillman who was placed on the temporary inactive list/death in the family.
The Chiefs (14-9, 44-48) led 3-0 after the third as Ryan McCarvel hit a home run in the second and a two-run double in the third.
Plummer brought in Danny Hudzina with a single to right in the fourth to make it 4-0.
Suwinski finished 3 for 4 with two RBI for the TinCaps.
Fort Wayne starter Mason Thompson (1-4) gave up four runs on five hits, struck out four and walked two in four innings. Will Headean and Blake Rogers combined for four innings of one-hit scoreless relief, striking out a combined seven baters.
Peoria's Mike O'Reilly (9-2) struck out 10, walked one and gave up five hits in seven innings.
The series continues at Peoria at 3 p.m. today.
