TinCaps crush Lugnuts to win series
CHRIS GOFF | The Journal Gazette
What was supposed to be a wet afternoon at Parkview Field turned sunny, and the TinCaps rolled to another series victory.
Michel Baez pitched six shutout innings, and Hudson Potts hit his 10th home run of the season to lead Fort Wayne over Lansing 13-4 on Monday before an announced crowd of 4,371 at Parkview Field.
The TinCaps (38-51, 12-7 second half) took three out of four games from Lansing and have won five of their last six series.
Potts finished 2 for 5 with a two-run homer and an RBI single, and Jorge Ona went 3 for 5 with an RBI single in the first inning, a two-run single in the second and another RBI single in Fort Wayne's three-run eighth inning.
Nate Easley's fourth-inning homer, his second of the year, made it 6-0 as the TinCaps roughed up Andy Ravel (5-4). In six innings, he allowed six runs on eight hits despite six strikeouts.
Baez, making his third professional start in the United States and second with Fort Wayne, gave up just one hit and struck out seven.
The Lugnuts (43-42, 6-13) briefly got back in the game with three runs off Will Headean in the seventh, but Fort Wayne replied with four in the bottom half of the inning.
Fernando Tatis Jr. (1 for 3 with an RBI triple and two walks) and Reinaldo Ilarraza (4 for 5 with a pair of RBI singles) also contributed to the TinCaps' attack, which was helped by a run-scoring error by center fielder Rodrigo Orozco in the seventh.
First pitch was orginially scheduled for 12:05 p.m. but was pushed back to 12:33 p.m. because of rain.
