Two male suspects – one a juvenile – are in custody following the early morning armed robbery of an Angola gasoline station.
Police said the Shell station, 1811 N. Wayne St., was robbed at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes by two individuals about 1:15 a.m. today.
There were no injuries in the robbery.
A nearby patrol officer spotted the suspects in a black passenger vehicle and a chase ensued along Interstate 69, according to a news release.
Police deployed stop sticks that flattened two of the car's tires and it stopped in a ditch just south of the Ashley exit, officers said.
The suspects took off on foot, but the passenger, 16, was caught a short time later. Police captured the driver, 27-year-old Jared Dean Starkey, about 6:20 a.m. on I-69.
Police said the juvenile is an escapee from Fort Wayne and will be charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest.
The getaway vehicle was stolen from Fort Wayne, police said.
Officers from Angola, Ashley, DeKalb and the Indiana State Police were among the assisting agencies.
The robbery remains under investigation.
