Champs knocked out of TBT

JUSTIN A. COHN | The Journal Gazette

The Fort Wayne Champs, a team made up of predominantly former Mad Ants players, was knocked out of the $2-million winner-take-all The Basketball Tournament on Sunday.
The Champs reached the regional finals — the third round — before losing to the region's top seed, Loyalty is Love, 88-71 at Lexington, Kentucky.

Gary Talton, Travis Leslie and Rion Brown each had 14 points for the Champs.

Cameron Jackson and Julian Mavunga had 8 points each for the team coached by Kevin Bloom and managed by Garrett Martz.

Loyalty is Love was led by Isaiah Austin's 23 points and Willie Reed's 21.

There are still Fort Wayne ties in the tournament. Matt Mitchell manages Eberlein Drive and they're still in it. Deshaun Thomas is on the roster of Carmen's Crew, a team of Ohio State Alumni that won its regional in Columbus, Ohio, Sunday, though he hasn't been playing.
