Death investigation begins at Eagle Marsh

Body of white male found on bench

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

The Allen County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a man found today at Eagle Marsh Nature Preserve.

The man was found on a bench there, with "an obvious head wound," Michael Burris of the Allen County coroner's office said.

It's not clear what caused the wound, he said.

Investigators were called to the area south of Engle Road, east of West Jefferson Boulevard, around 11 a.m. A hiker found the man, who had his head back, on the bench.

"At this time, there doesn't seem to be any signs of foul play," said Steve Stone, sheriff's department spokesman.
