Verbatim: Southern Indiana woman wins $1 million

Hoosier Lottery issued the following news release today:

Surrounded by tens of thousands of football fans at the center of Lucas Oil Stadium, Lanesville-native Rita Grut gasped when she heard her name. She had just won $1 million from the Hoosier Lottery during halftime of the Indianapolis Colts game.

Having celebrated her 68th birthday three days prior, Rita’s $1,000,000 Dollar Blowout 2nd Chance Promotion win was the icing on her birthday cake.

“It’s one heck of a birthday present,” she said minutes after winning, a grin spreading across her face.

Rita was among five finalists who appeared at halftime of the Colts game for the live drawing. Each of the five finalists won $500 and an entry into the $1 million drawing. Rita attended the game with her husband of 32 years, George. Before the game, George suspected Rita would win.

“He said, ‘You’re lucky, you’ll probably win today,’” Rita said.

Rita plans to use her prize money to pay off her home mortgage and remodel her house.

Rita, who lives just outside of New Albany, retired from a manufacturing career and found herself antsy. So, she now works at a bakery.

Players are able to submit non-winning $30 $1,000,000 Blowout Scratch-offs into the myLOTTERY 2nd Chance promotion for a chance to win $500 and/or an entry into the $1 million drawing. Players still have time to enter for one of two other $1 million 2nd Chance drawings by entering non-winning $30 $1,000,000 Blowout Scratch-offs. The next entry deadlines are Feb. 3, 2019 and June 30, 2019.

$1,000,000 Blowout Estimated Overall Odds 1 in 7.73. 2nd Chance promotion odds are dependent upon the number of entries received.
