Bluffton mayor Ted Ellis said today he would not seek a seventh term as mayor of the Wells County seat.
Ellis, 71, cited his age and health reasons for his decision.
“Six years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease,” he said in a statement. “While I am generally healthy, we know that the disease will progress and I plan to make the most of my retirement years.”
Ellis was elected in 1995. He has been unopposed in each of his bids for re-election and is among the longest-serving mayors in Indiana. His current term extends until Jan. 1, 2020.
