MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette
This story has been corrected to reflect that Angela Trevino was a Circuit Court magistrate before taking the bench at Allen Superior Court.
A judicial nominating panel will soon announce when it will interview candidates to replace retiring Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck.
Surbeck, 72, – the court's longest-tenured judge – announced in June he will retire at the end of the year, when he'll have served nearly 30 years on the bench.
Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David said dates for interviews likely will be announced early next week. David is chairman of the county's Judicial Nominating Commission, which will choose three finalists for the judgeship to send to Gov. Eric Holcomb.
Holcomb will choose one of the finalists to take over for Surbeck.
Interviews with judge candidates typically are public. The commission held inteviews over two days in January, after former Judge Dan Heath announced his retirement.
Andrea Trevino, was a Circuit Court magistrate before taking the bench at Allen Superior Court, was chosen to succeed Heath in the court's juvenile division.
