Javon Burnett and his girlfriend were arguing the morning of April 1. She dropped him off at an apartment complex near Memorial Coliseum, and he tried to call her a few minutes later, but she hung up.
When she called Burnett back a few minutes later, the person who answered the phone said he'd been shot.
Those details are included in court documents filed in Allen Superior Court charging Joshua A. Smiley, 21, and Tyrion L. McNair, 25, with murder.
A witness told police he gave McNair a 9 millimeter Glock handgun before the shooting and "it flew past my mind" that he and Smiley were headed to kill someone, according to probable cause affidavits.
Burnett, 26, was at the complex to retrieve his car so he could travel to his mother's house to go to church, his girlfriend told police. He was found between two buildings at The Summit at Ridgewood Apartments and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The affidavits do not indicate a motive for the killing.
