Lake Gage boater pleads guilty in motorboat incident

A Fort Wayne woman who caused a boating accident last year that left several people injured – two badly – pleaded guilty to felony criminal recklessness.
Dominique Effinger, 21, had been charged with a list of other charges including two felony counts of operating a motorboat with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher. A plea agreement was filed last week, court records show.
The criminal recklessness charge carries a penalty of up to 2 1/2 years in prison.
The speedboat Effinger was driving went out of control July 15, 2017, on Lake Gage in Steuben county, according to a probable cause affidavit.
One passenger in the boat suffered an arm injury officials described as a partial amputation. Another had skull fractures and other broken bones.
