Six people safely escaped an early morning fire that investigators said caused heavy damage to a home on Kensington Drive.

Firefighters arrived to 7320 Kensington Drive about 3 a.m. today and found three adults and three children outside the one-story home. They told crews a pet cat remained inside the structure.

The animal was rescued several minutes later and the blaze took about a half hour to get under control, according to a news release.

There were no injuries and the fire remains under investigation.
