Fort Wayne Champs team seeking votes

Justin A. Cohn | The Journal Gazette

The Fort Wayne Champs basketball team’s roster has changed, and it still needs much last-minute fan support to again get into The Basketball Tournament, a $2 million winner-take-all event.

The team, comprised of players who have spent time with the Mad Ants, no longer will have Walt Lemon Jr. because of NBA Summer League commitments. But the roster will feature Trey McKinney Jones, Stephan Hicks, Tra-Deon Hollins and Je’lon Hornbeak.

“I feel like we have a good chance to win it all this year,” McKinney Jones said. “From playing together in Fort Wayne, we have the chemistry that many other teams won’t have in this tournament and that gives us a big advantage. I really hope the great people of Fort Wayne can vote us in.”

The deadline to vote is noon Friday at www.thetournament.com. The Champs are 17th in region voting and need to get to ninth for an automatic berth. Fans can get a share of the winnings by recruiting enough votes.

The Champs made the semifinals in 2015.
