St. Joseph below Montpelier to flood

The St. Joseph River below Montpelier, Ohio, is to experience a moderate flood, the National Weather Service said today.

At 9 a.m. the stage was 13 feet and rising; flood stage is 12 feet, the weather service said in a statement. The river is forecast to crest at 14.2 feet late Wednesday.

At 14 feet, the weather service said, County Road K one mile southwest of Montpelier is flooded, and floodwaters affect the southeast side of Pioneer and cover large areas of lowland and agricultural land near the river.

The crest compares to a crest of 14.4 feet in February 2008.
