Freezing rain advisory issued for area

The Journal Gazette

Fort Wayne area motorists should use caution today as a winter weather travel advisory is warning of freezing rain and sleet.

Bernie Beier, director of the Allen County Office of Homeland Security, issued the advisory today. A city of Fort Wayne news release said steady sleet and a drop in temperatures have created hazardous driving conditions.

Numerous northeast Indiana school districts were operating under a two-hour delay, but many have canceled classes, including Fort Wayne Community Schools. A make-up day is scheduled for March 16.

All Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Gymnastics in Motion classes scheduled for this evening are canceled as well.

This morning's rains also resulted in the city of Fort Wayne issuing a combined sewer overflow warning.
