Ceiling fans recalled for new installation instructions
The Journal Gazette
Hunter Fan Co. of Memphis, Tennessee, has recalled nearly 170,000 Contempo ceiling fans with improper installation instructions for a light globe, which can cause the globe to fall and pose an injury hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said today.
The recall involves models 59176 and 59174; the model number can be found on a label on top of the motor housing, the commission said in a statement.
The fans were sold at Costco and online at www.costco.com from January 2016 to August 2017 for about $130, the statement said. It said refurbished fans were sold during the same period online on eBay, Amazon and Groupon.
Hunter has received 40 reports of the light globe falling because of the incorrect instructions, the statement said; no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should check to ensure the light globe was installed correctly by turning it clockwise until it stops and is resting firmly in place, the statement said.
Costco and Hunter are contacting all known purchasers to provide new installation instructions. For more information, contact Hunter toll-free at 866-326-2003 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fort Wayne time weekdays.
