The Journal Gazette
Two Fort Wayne women have been identified as victims of an early morning shooting on East Sherwood Terrace, and their deaths have been declared Allen County's 32nd and 33rd homicides of the year, the county coroner's office said today.
Nicole Marie Saylor, 36, was found suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds at the scene, and died at the scene, the coroner's office said in a statement following autopsies.
Kayla Marie Harris, 24, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound or wounds, but died there a short time after arrival, the statement said.
A third woman shot was in critical condition at a local hospital, city police have said. Her name was not disclosed.
Police were called to the 200 block of East Sherwood Terrace shortly after 4 a.m. on a report of a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and found all three women lying in the front yard of a home, police have said.
They said they have determined the victims were targeted and that the shootings were not random. They said detectives were following several leads.
The shootings remain under investigation by city police, the county prosecutor's office and the coroner's office.
