A Ligonier hunter was injured this morning when he fell nearly 16 feet from a tree stand to the ground in Kosciusko County, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.

Jimmy Ritchie, 49, was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with leg and back injuries after the 7 a.m. incident, conservation officers said in a statement.

Ritchie was not wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident, the statement said.

North Webster EMS and Fire, Parkview Samaritan and the county sheriff's department also assisted.
