The Journal Gazette

Jamie Schaafsma, Curtis Leonard and Taylor Crunk have re-signed for the 2017-18 season, the Komets announced today.

In a statement, the club said Komet general manager David Franke signed all three players before the ECHL's June 30 deadline of making qualifying offers to players from the season-ending roster, but waited to announce the signings until after the July 4th holiday.

Schaafsma, 34, of Chatham, Ontario, will be in his third season for the Komets. Last year he served as captain and player/assistant coach, while contributing 17 goals and 45 assists in 53 games and earning Fort Wayne's True Komet Award.

Leonard, 24, of Napanee, Ontario, also will be starting his third season with the Komets. He had career highs of four goals and 13 assists in 65 games with the Komets last season.

Crunk, 22, of San Jacinto, California, will be returning to Fort Wayne for his second full season. Last year he had one goal and three assists in 42 games while accumulating 120 penalty minutes.

The Komet preseason roster stands at nine players -- six forwards and three defensemen.
