Suspicious vehicle yields drug bust, police say

A Steuben County man is behind bars on drug charges after a traffic stop Tuesday night near Howe, Indiana State Police said today.

A state police trooper had stopped a suspicious vehicle on LaGrange County Road 700 North around 10:30 p.m., state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement.

Matthew Wayne Friedel, 28, was arrested after the trooper smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from his car, the statement said.

The officer found methamphetamine, marijuana, two drug syringes, a pipe used for smoking meth and more than $1,800 inside Friedel's car.

Friedel also had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Allen County alleging dealing meth, the statement said.

It said Friedel is in the LaGrange County Jail on preliminarily charges of dealing and possession of meth, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia.
