Verbatim: Elkhart retiree wins $1 million prize

Hoosier Lottery issued the following news release Friday, April 14:

INDIANAPOLIS (April 14, 2017) - An Elkhart retiree was the first person to win the top prize on the Hoosier Lotto +PLUS drawing.

Clarence Ash, who worked in the RV industry before retiring, claimed his $1 million prize alongside his wife of 42 years and two close friends less than a week after the April 5 drawing.

Clarence has played Hoosier Lotto weekly for six years. He started buying his tickets with +PLUS from the moment it was offered. He said he didn't want to miss out if his numbers matched the +PLUS drawing.

Although Clarence used to play numbers that had personal significance to him, he recently asked his wife, Peggy, to pick numbers. She picked them at random, and they're the ones that matched all six in the +PLUS drawing.

Clarence was still processing the win and what to do with the prize money.

"There's so much stuff going through my head right now," Clarence said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Meijer C-Stop at 4522 Elkhart Road in Goshen. The winning +PLUS numbers for April 5 are: 13-21-34-38-42-46.

The +PLUS drawing immediately follows the Hoosier Lotto drawing Wednesday and Saturday nights. +PLUS is an add-on option for Hoosier Lotto that uses a player's numbers in an additional drawing. Click here for a video on how to play.

Hoosier Lotto Overall Odds are 1 in 6. +PLUS Overall Odds are 1 in 6. The next Hoosier Lotto +PLUS drawing is Saturday night. The estimated jackpot for Hoosier Lotto is $11.8 million for Saturday.
