Komets sign big defenseman
The Komets have signed 23-year-old defenseman Cody Sol, a fifth-round draft pick of the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers in 2009.
He spent last season with the ECHL’s Ontario Reign, totaling six goals, 16 points and 121 penalty minutes in 65 games.
Sol, 6-foot-5, 242 pounds, has played 27 games in the American Hockey League with the St. John’s IceCaps, tallying one goal, four points and 63 penalty minutes between 2012 and 2014.
He is just the fourth defenseman signed by the Komets, joining Drew Daniels, William Lacasse and Matthew Maione.
The Komets also have brought on goaltender Pat Nagle, plus forwards Brett Beebe, Mike Embach, Angelo Esposito, Thomas Frazee, Alex Hudson, Christian Ouellet, Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock, Shawn Szydlowski and Greg Wolfe.
In other news, the Komets’ game against the Cincinnati Cyclones, originally scheduled for Feb. 24, has been moved to Nov. 15 at U.S. Bank Arena.
