Franke: 'I have heard nothing'

While I have heard nothing from the ECHL or CHL offices, I did track down Komets president Michael Franke about the internet report that the leagues are in talks to merge.

“In all honesty, I have heard nothing,” said Franke, who is on the ECHL’s executive committee. “And it hasn’t been part of our meetings.”

Look, I love the internet. I love social media. And I love the information it gives us.

And I'm not saying this won't happen; for all I know, it will.

But it's interesting/frustrating and makes a lot of work for a lot of us when people who aren't directly tied to leagues tweet or blog such things. Do they know the effect it has for the fans, organizations, players and media?

This reminds me in a funny way of when Rob Lowe said years ago Peyton Manning was retiring. It was baseless and wrong. But Lowe had a name, so it became a huge story and later on it, it was like, "Whoops, sorry about that."

The merger "talk" rumor has been going on for years.

All that said, I do hope Darryl Wolski is ultimately right. There needs to be some geographic sanity to the Double-A level. For everyone involved.

And while I understand the ECHL and CHL not wanting to comment on every little rumor or tweet -- I haven't heard back all day from them -- they really should say something. Silence gives things legs.
