Record 245 pets adopted in July from SPCA

July was a record-setting month for the Allen County SPCA, which found homes for 245 cats and dogs, breaking the prior record set in May.

“We’re elated about this adoption success,” shelter director Jessica Henry said in a prepared statement.

She credited the Northern Indiana Pet Expo and a PetSmart Charities Adoption Tent Event with bolstering adoptions above the previous record of 206 animals in a month.

Although the events may have helped, Henry feels the success is also owed to unprecedented support from the community for adoptions.

A more streamlined adoption process, reduced fees and increased community awareness are also at play, Henry said.

Just one year ago, the adoption count for July was only 118 animals.

“What’s most meaningful is that 245 once-homeless animals have now found forever homes,” Henry said.
