Driver badly hurt after slamming bus

A man was seriously injured Wednesday when his car slammed into the back of a stopped Citilink bus.

About 3:15 p.m., the driver, whose name was not released, was headed north on Decatur Road when he came up behind a stopped bus at South Anthony Boulevard, Fort Wayne police said.

Despite the man’s attempts to stop, his Buick LeSabre plowed into the back of the bus with enough force that the car’s bumper came to rest at the front of the bus.

Based on tire marks at the scene and witness statements, police believe the man tried to stop before impact. The man, who is in his 30s, was hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

Speed was a factor in the crash, police said.

Two passengers on the bus and its driver were not injured, according to police.
