Mom on probation in child neglect case

A 36-year-old mother owes nearly $10,000 in restitution and was given a sentence of probation after she pleaded guilty Friday in Allen Superior Court to neglecting her children.

Brandy M. Horne appeared to be drunk when she left her children home alone one night in January and drove off, slamming her truck into a parked vehicle, court documents say.

According to the documents, two witnesses saw Horne drive her truck into a parked car.

When police arrived at her home, she pulled up in another vehicle.

Her two children, ages 4 and 3, were alone inside the house in the 200 block of South Cornell Circle.

She pleaded guilty Friday to two felony counts of neglect of a dependent and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced her to a total of two years in prison; Gull then suspended the sentenced but ordered Horne to serve one year on probation.

Gull also ordered Horne to pay $9,637 in restitution, according to court documents.
