Buskirk best bet for commissioner

I’m writing to encourage Allen County residents to vote for Roy Buskirk for Allen County commissioner, 3rd District, on May 6. Buskirk has proven himself an effective leader as our county councilman at large over the past 12 years, and he will continue to be a great public servant as commissioner. He has been a voice for the people all the years he has served Allen County in filing away on the budget and saving tax dollars wherever he can.

I’ve known Buskirk personally for years. We met as teenagers at the Allen County 4-H Fair, and I’ve been able to observe his honesty and ethical standards as he has made good decisions throughout the years.

Buskirk is a Vietnam Army veteran, who served in the 82nd Airborne/military police. His conservative views were instilled at a young age from his family, where he learned to work hard on the farm and appreciate his neighbors and church family. His ties to Allen County go back six generations to 1850. After graduating from Lafayette Center High School, Buskirk graduated from International Business College with a degree in business administration and finance. His background as a small businessman includes real estate and auctioneering, and recently he retired as a right-of-way buyer for the state.

Roy is pro-life, and as a conservative he is always looking out for the taxpayers. He listens to the views of the people and works tirelessly for them. A vote for Roy Buskirk is a vote for someone who cares about our community. He is a person my wife and I trust to make good decisions, and we encourage you to vote for Roy Buskirk.

Airlines pricing selves out of Fort Wayne

While pricing a vacation to Reno, Nev., I discovered why people don’t use the Fort Wayne airport.

The price out of Fort Wayne for two people to Reno through Dallas is $1,958. The price out of Indianapolis for two people to Reno through Dallas is $1,248.

That’s a difference of $710 – same dates, same flights, same airline.

Why?

GOP hasnít shown ability to lead

Republicans must prove they are worthy if they want to lead again. I believe the country would be better off if run by the Democrats.

The Republicans had control of the presidency (by cheating the country in the 2000 presidential election), the House and the Senate from 2001-07. So what did we get then? 9/11. A war based on lies started in Iraq. The transfer of wealth from the working and middle classes to the rich. Skyrocketing deficits. Policies that led to the collapse of the economy and the loss of millions of jobs. And all of the failed policies of George W. Bush that they still support today.

Fortunately, people were willing to learn from their mistakes and the Democrats were able to have the presidency, the House and the Senate from 2009-11. So what did we get then? The auto industry was saved. A better health care plan was proposed and eventually passed. Millions of jobs were saved and millions more were created by a successful stimulus program. Osama bin Laden and other terrorists were killed or stopped. A plan to scale back U.S. involvement in the Iraq and Afghan wars was started.

So why not elect a Democratic majority in Congress for the next two years so at least something positive can get done? If the Republicans really want to lead, they can wait until 2016 and prove they are worthy by working for positive changes to help this country rather than following obstructionist policies.
