TinCaps rally comes up short

The TinCaps fell too far behind Kane County on Thursday to complete a second comeback in Geneva, Ill., as they lost 7-5.

The Cougars (4-3) pounded starter Walker Weickel for six runs, four earned, on five hits in the first two innings.

Payton Baskette limited Kane County to one run over the next 5 1/3 innings as the TinCaps tried to rally.

Franmil Reyes opened the fourth inning for the TinCaps with a home run to cut the deficit to 6-1, and Fort Wayne (2-5) scored four runs in the sixth after former Norwell standout Josh VanMeter opened the inning with a double.

But the TinCaps couldn’t score again after the sixth as Kane County added one more run in the eighth.
