Would-be Jeep buyer nabbed

An Illinois man was arrested Friday by Indiana State Police, accused of trying to use a false identity to buy a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee worth about $67,000 at Glenbrook Dodge in Fort Wayne.

Detectives Roland Purdy and Joe White became involved March 14 when the dealership called about an alleged identity deception by a person trying to buy the vehicle. It was discovered that the person who was attempting to buy the Jeep was not the person whose identity he was using, police said.

The suspect, identified as Carl Wright, 34, of Hazel Crest, Ill., said he was not willing to drive to Fort Wayne but would meet in Valparaiso to pick up the Jeep Cherokee. Wright was arrested in Valparaiso and taken to the Porter County Jail, where he was charged with identity deception, forgery and attempted theft, all felonies.

A person from Chicago drove Wright to Valparaiso and was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
