Stolen vehicle stopped after chase

A Michigan man was arrested early Saturday, accused of leading northwest Ohio police on a chase in a stolen car.

The Williams County Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle was seen speeding at U.S. 20A west of Ohio 15 in Madison Township about 1:49 a.m. During the pursuit, police learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Michigan.

Police used spikes to stop it on County Road C, just west of Ohio 576 in Center Township. The sheriff’s office said Stephen A. Asher, 26, of Battle Creek, Mich., was removed from the car and initially charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer, receiving stolen property and other traffic offenses.

He was being held at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.

Police did not indicate what kind of vehicle was involved.
