Ohio lawmaker donates kidney to wife of 40 years

CLEVELAND – A northeast Ohio lawmaker is donating a kidney to his wife of 40 years to help her overcome an autoimmune disease.

House Rep. Ron Young, a Republican from Lake County, was to undergo surgery Friday to donate the kidney to his wife, Kathy.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group (http://bit.ly/1hDnuk2) reports that Young’s wife has been on a dialysis machine because of the disease lupus.

The 58-year-old lawmaker jokes that he can’t withhold much of anything from his wife, including bodily organs.

His recovery is expected to take about 10 days and his wife should be off dialysis almost immediately, if all goes well.

House Speaker William Batchelder, a Medina Republican, led a prayer on the couple’s behalf during Wednesday’s House session.
