Pedestrian struck by SUV dies

A Fort Wayne man died Sunday morning of injuries he suffered when he was struck by an SUV on Friday night.

Adam Christopher Shaw, 29, was walking in the road about 8:30 p.m. Friday near East Washington Boulevard and Meyer Road when he was hit by a Nissan Pathfinder, police said.

Shaw was transported to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition. He later died of blunt-force trauma, according to the Allen County coroner.

The driver of the Pathfinder told police he did not see Shaw until he was struck.

A witness told police Shaw was wearing all-dark clothing and was hard to see.

Police also determined he was wearing headphones.

Shaw’s death is the third traffic fatality in Fort Wayne and Allen County for this year, according to the coroner’s office.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
