Police tag suspect in Craigslist holdup

A 22-year-old Fort Wayne man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the September robbery of a man who thought he was buying an iPhone he saw on Craigslist.

Eric Anthony Mitchell, of the 2000 block of Pontiac Street, is preliminarily charged with robbery. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police believe Mitchell robbed the victim Sept. 19 in the area of Spring Street and St. Marys Avenue. After pointing a gun at the victim, Mitchell made off with $350 cash and the man’s iPhone 3S with its case.

The victim told police he had gone to the area to buy an iPhone 5 he had seen advertised on Craigslist, according to court documents.

In September, the Fort Wayne Police Department warned the public about robbers targeting those looking to buy iPhones from Craigslist. From Aug. 15 to Sept. 21, four such robberies were reported.
