Vaskivuo dealt to Elmira

Mike Vaskivuo, the 2012 Playoff MVP with the Komets, left the team Dec. 26 in hopes of being traded.

That wish was granted Monday, when the Komets sent Vaskivuo and defenseman Nik Pokulok to the Elmira Jackals for forwards Matt Carter and Christian Ouellet.

Carter, 26, had nine goals and 15 points in 29 games this season with Elmira.

He is a former star at the University of Price Edward Island, for which he had 18 goals and 38 points in 28 games as a senior in 2011-12. Last season, he skated for San Francisco, Las Vegas and Elmira of the ECHL, scoring five goals and 20 points in 58 games.

Ouellet, 22, had three goals and 10 points in 19 games this season with Elmira. He had three points in his last four games. Last season with Gwinnett and San Francisco, he had 17 goals and 37 points in 66 games.

Vaskivuo, 27, who spent last season in France after leading the Komets to the 2012 CHL title, had five goals and 21 points in 23 games this season with Fort Wayne.

Pokulok, 23 had two goals and four points in 16 games.

The Komets play host to the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum.
