Tech awaits top-ranked Cougars

Women’s event features rivals in 1st-round clash

– The No. 1 Saint Francis women’s basketball team has the chance to improve to 15-0 by the end of the 2013, and the team will only have to travel across town to Indiana Tech’s SportONE Classic to do it.

Saint Francis (13-0) is one of three teams left in NAIA Division II that are undefeated. No. 2 Northwestern (14-0) and No. 21 Point Park (12-0) are the others.

Indiana Tech (9-4) received votes for the first time in program history in the Dec. 10 NAIA coaches poll and have one of the best starts in program history.

The SportONE Classic tips off at Tech’s Schafer Center on Monday with Spring Arbor (6-6) playing Trinity Christian (4-10) followed by the clash of the crosstown rivals.

The Cougars defeated Indiana Tech 97-60 at their previous meeting on Nov. 2.

An undefeated Classic would keep the Cougars at the top and maintaining the best record in the NAIA going into 2014.
