New Komet scores 1st goal in road win

Mike Embach’s first game with the Komets was a success.

He scored the first goal, assisted on the second and third goals, and led the Komets to a 4-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday night in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Komets (9-8-4), who play today at Memorial Coliseum against the Evansville IceMen, finished their four-game road trip with a 2-1-1 record.

Embach, who was acquired in a five-player trade from Gwinnett on Thursday, made it 1-0 with a shot from 35 feet out during a Fort Wayne power play 7:02 into the first period in front of 1,884 fans.

Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock fought his way through a crowd of players and put the rebound of an Embach shot into the net for a 2-0 lead at 9:57 of the second period.

Embach’s pass helped set up Brandon Marino for a breakaway goal, during a Fort Wayne power play, at 11:51 of the third period.

David Pacan scored at 13:22 for Kalamazoo (11-8-2). But the Komets’ Chris Auger answered with an empty-netter in the final minute.

Fort Wayne’s Andrey Makarov stopped 34 of 35 shots. Joel Martin stopped 31 of 34 for Kalamazoo.

The Komets are 1-1-0 against the Wings this season.
