Mastodon tracks

Mastodon women roll

It didn't figure to be overly dramatic. And it wasn't.

Haley Seibert scored 20 points including 5 of 6 from the 3-point line, Amanda Hyde added 18, six rebounds and four assists, and the IPFW women's basketball team raced past NAIA opponent Indiana Tech, 101-45, tonight at the Gates Center.

It was an official game for the Mastodons (5-6) but an exhibition only for Tech.

Either way, the suspense fled in a hurry.

After Indiana Tech peeled off a 7-0 run to forge early leads of 7-2 and 9-4, the Mastodons scored 25 of the next 27 points, and that was essentially that. Seibert, enroute to a 15-point first half, splashed a trio of 3s in the 25-2 run, and Hyde gave the Mastodons the lead for keeps with a bucket and free throw at the 14:29 mark.

Tech, conversely, went 10:29 without a point and 11:20 without a field goal until Sabine Filippovica got a short jumper to bed down with 5:33 to play in the half.

That cut the deficit to 29-13. The Mastodons expanded that to 25 points twice before going in at the half up 46-23.

Chelsea Carradine led the Warriors with 18 points. The Mastodons limited Tech to 18-of-65 shooting and outrebounded Tech 46-35.
