Greater Fort Wayne hires city community development director

Greater Fort Wayne Inc. on Wednesday announced that John Urbahns has been named executive vice president of economic development. His first day will be Jan. 6.

Urbahns’ responsibilities will include leading the non-profit’s efforts related to business expansion and attraction, entrepreneurship, innovation, downtown development and industry cluster advancement.

For the past seven years, Urbahns has been Fort Wayne’s community development director. This isn’t the first time the city and Greater Fort Wayne have raided the each other’s staff.

In July, Deputy Mayor Mark Becker was named the first CEO of Greater Fort Wayne, the merger of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance.

In October, Becker was replaced as deputy mayor with Karl Bandemer, who was a senior development officer with the alliance.
