Sand Gnats owner makes Fort Wayne-style stadium bid

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The owner of Savannah’s minor league baseball team is seeking support from the city for a new multi-use stadium.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/1cwdLNw) that the Savannah Sand Gnats’ owner is pitching the idea of a new stadium along the Savannah River to host baseball games, concerts and other events.

Hardball Capital CEO Jason Freier said Grayson Stadium is no longer a suitable home for the company’s baseball team due to the aging ballpark’s deteriorating condition and location outside of downtown.

Freier said he is seeking a partnership similar to one that Hardball Capital formed with Fort Wayne, Ind. Fort Wayne’s Parkview Field was built using a combination of public and private funding.
