Body found in alley on southeast side

The body of a man was found Sunday afternoon in an alley that runs east of Central Drive on Fort Wayne's southeast side.

Police were called to the scene behind 3100 Central Drive – two blocks east of South Anthony Boulevard – at 3:08 p.m. on reports of a man down.

There they found a man lying in the alley, according to a statement from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Police said the man appeared to have trauma, and he was unresponsive. Police did not describe the nature of the trauma. The coroner and paramedics who responded to the call pronounced the man dead at the scene. The coroner will determine the cause of death after performing an autopsy, police said.

Police said Sunday night that the investigation was still in its preliminary stage.

If the Allen County Coroner's Office rules the death a homicide, it would be the 43rd in the county so far this year. All but two of the slayings happened in the city of Fort Wayne.
