Canterbury senior scorching to start season

Canterbury senior Kindell Fincher has been on an early season roll.

In her first three games of the year, the Xavier recruit has scored 97 points, including a career-high 41 points in the season opener.

She is averaging more than 30 points per game so far this year.

"She is probably the focus of every team we play," Canterbury coach Wayne Kreiger said. "We talk about continuing to play team basketball because everybody needs everybody else. We are not just one-dimensional."

Fincher had 26 points and 11 rebounds in a 69-59 win over Snider on Saturday at the Kilmer Classic.

Her early season performances have put her into the conversations of not only Indiana All-Star status but also Miss Basketball consideration.

Junior Darby Maggard had 26 points, and another junior, Katherine Smith, had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

"I don't think I have played with or seen someone quite like her," Smith said of Fincher. "When she can do that, it only helps our team in the long run. If she can continue that, all of us are happy but if she can't others will just have to step up."
