Philharmonic, musicians' union reach tentative agreement

FORT WAYNE -- The Fort Wayne Philharmonic and its musicians' union reached a tentative agreement late Thursday, which will now be presented to the musicians and to the Philharmonic board for ratification, it was announced in a statement Friday.

Details of the agreement between the Philharmonic and the Fort Wayne Musicians Association were not released pending the ratification. Ratification votes are expected to take place during the next two weeks, the statement said.

Rehearsals and concerts will continue as scheduled under the terms of the expired agreement until the new contract is completed.

The musicians' four-year contract ended in August, but negotiations began in April because of the orchestra's financial concerns. The Philharmonic continues to run a deficit, which was reported earlier this year at more than $2.3 million.
