Satek Winery in Fremont will be showing appreciation for French wines with its release of the nouveau-style wine Thursday – the same day as the official release date of Beaujolais Nouveau wines in France.
Tradition has the nouveau wine released on the third Thursday of November.
Nouveau, meaning new, refers to wines that are released in the same year in which the grapes are harvested. Satek Winerys version – Kreibaum Bay Nouveau – was created from recently harvested Marechal Foch grapes.
The Nouveau wine is popular because the bitter tannins, normally found in red wines, arent there, leaving an easy-to-drink, fruity wine. It is best served chilled and enjoyed during the first month. It costs $11.21 a bottle.
The winery is hosting its annual Holiday Open House this weekend. There will be extended hours Friday, until 9 p.m., and merchandise will be 20 percent off.
