And Another Thing

Ray Lewis has a moment

There have been a few moments on "Monday Night Football" in 43 years.

There was the time Don Meredith warbled "Turn out the lights, the party's over" during a blowout.

There was the time Howard Cosell either was or wasn't toasted in the booth one cold night in Philadelphia.

There was the time the camera focused on a sleeping fan in Houston, who woke up and flipped off America on national TV, which prompted Dandy Don to drawl "Howard, he means we're No. 1."

But maybe the all-timer happened on the pregame show tonight.

Here was Ray Lewis, railing about the roughing the passer penalty Ahmad Brooks drew for his sack of Drew Brees that forced a fumble but then was reversed due to the penalty. And here was Lewis, pulling out his American Express card and saying if the NFL fined Brooks, he'd pay half of it.

Awesome. Even more awesome: The likelihood that Roger Goodell's head exploded when he saw that.

As to the sack ... well, here it is. I say it's borderline at best. I say the only reason it's not totally clean is that Brees is only 6-foot-2 on a good day. If it's anyone else Brooks is hitting, there's no flag.

Which is why I totally understand Brooks' frustration. And Lewis'. And the inadvertent plug for Amex.
