Senior goes for 41 as Canterbury cruises

– Senior Kindell Fincher scored a career-high 41 points as the Canterbury girls basketball team beat visiting Wayne 83-61 in their season opener Saturday.

The No. 3 Cavaliers won two Class A state titles in a row and five of the last six years, but moved up to 2A this year.

Fincher made 12 of 19 from the field, including 3 of 6 on 3-pointers and 14 of 16 from the free-throw line. She added 10 rebounds, seven steals and three assists.

Darby Maggard had 17 points, while Katherine Smith added 10. Sh’Toya Sanders led Wayne with 17.

Girls basketball

HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 73, BISHOP LUERS 60: The 3A No. 11 Knights fell to the 2A No. 1 Eagles on the road. Allison Butler scored 16 points, while Emma Wolfe and Addie Reimbold each had 11.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 37, WARSAW 26: Lindsey Foster led the host Vikings with nine points, while senior Nikki Grose scored seven points for the Tigers.

DEKALB 62, NORTH SIDE 24: Baylee Rinehart had 23 points in the home win. Zorana Lincner had 10 points for the Redskins.

WEST NOBLE 59, BETHANY CHRISTIAN 18: Lexi Shepherd led a balanced attack with 12 points for the host Chargers. Kelsie Peterson added 10 points.

EASTBROOK 47, SOUTHERN WELLS 41: Brooke Saylor scored 24 points in the home loss. The Raiders scored only two points in the second quarter.
