Felony alleged in bar lot beating

A fight outside a New Haven bar has led to a felony count against a 27-year-old man.

Zachary Joley, of the 1900 block of Bayview Drive in Fort Wayne, was charged Thursday with aggravated battery.

There is a warrant for his arrest.

About 3 a.m. Sept. 14, New Haven police were called to deal with a fight in the lot behind Carl’s Tavern at 433 Broadway, and they found a man bleeding heavily, according to court papers.

Investigators obtained surveillance video that showed Joley and four others arguing. The quarrel eventually became physical, so the tavern owner and the man police found went to break it up, court papers stated.

The surveillance video showed Joley hit the man in the head, sending him to the pavement.

The victim was knocked out, had lost teeth and suffered facial fractures, court papers said.
