The Notre Dame women's basketball team added three of the top-rated players in this year's recruiting class Thursday.
Forward Brianna Turner, who is the top-ranked player in the class of 2014 by Blue Star Basketball, forward Kathryn Westbeld, who is ranked No. 16 by Blue Star Basketball, and guard Mychal Johnson, who is ranked No. 17 by Blue Star Basketball, signed their national letters of intent, the university announced.
The class is ranked No. 3 in the nation by All-Star Girls Report, No. 5 by espnW Hoopgurlz and Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and No. 6 by Blue Star Basketball and Prospects Nation.
"I couldn't be happier to have Mychal, Brianna and Kathryn joining us at Notre Dame next year," coach Muffet McGraw said in a statement. "When you lose three senior starters from your roster, you'd better have a good class coming in to replace them, and we certainly do have that. These are three outstanding players coming in and I can't wait to see how they're going to fit into our system."
The 6-foot-3 Turner plays at Manvel in Pearland, Texas. She averaged 20.8 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as a junior.
The 6-2 Westbeld plays at Kettering Fairmont High in Kettering, Ohio. She averaged 15 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2 blocks last season.
The 5-8 Johnson plays at Huntington St. Joseph in Huntington, W.Va. she averaged 21.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.9 assists last year.
