5 arrested in Kosciusko prostitution raids

Five people were arrested on prostitution-related charges following a series of raids in Kosciusko County Wednesday and today, the county sheriff's department said.

Samuel Scott Stimmel, 64, was charged with felony promoting prostitution and was preliminarily charged with corrupt business influence, the sheriff's department said in a statement. He was released on $100,000 bond.

The statement said four others were preliminarily charged with promoting prostitution, and were being held in the county jail on $2,000 bonds each --

  • Donn Lee Rupert, 51, of South Bend;
  • Kimberly Kay Gill, 32, of South Bend;
  • Kelly Joe Whitman, 23, of South Bend; and
  • Christine Marie Bennett, 27, of Warsaw.
Police said officers initially raided a Warsaw hotel, which they did not identify, on Wednesday night, arresting four people. They said the arrests stemmed from an October investigation by undercover officers involving exotic dancers.

The statement said officers from the Syracuse, Warsaw, Pierceton and North Webster police departments, along with Indiana State Police and county sheriff's deputies, then executed search warrants at two North Webster addresses shortly after midnight.
