5 pets die in fire

A fire that engulfed a mobile home in northwest Fort Wayne killed five pets Thursday night, and three other pets were missing.

About 9:10 p.m., fire crews were sent to Lot 318 of Valley Hills Mobile Home Park at 2737 W. Washington Center Road, north of Interstate 69.

Upon arrival, firefighters learned that two adults had escaped the fire and that four cats and four dogs remained inside, officials said.

The flames, which destroyed the mobile home, were brought under control in 13 minutes. No people were reported injured.

As of late Thursday, three of the dogs and two of the cats, including a kitten, had been found dead in the home, which firefighters searched thoroughly. The fate of the three other animals was uncertain, fire officials said.
