I've put this off for as long as I can. But the demand has finally gotten to great, so, here, officially, is the Blob World Series prediction:
Cardinals in six.
And, listen, this was tough. On the one hand, the Cardinals have a certified ace (Adam Wainwright), an unhittable rookie (Michael Wacha) a lights-out pen and Carlos Beltran. On the other, the Red Sox have Big Papi, the unhittable Koji Uehara and Uncle Sy from "Duck Dynasty."
Oh, sorry. That's Mike Napoli, actually. My bad.
Really, though, it's hard to pick against the Red Sox, because, come on, how do you pick against all those beards? The beards are epic. They are awesome. Napoli and Johnny Gomes look like they winter with Jim Bridger in the Rockies. Dustin Pedroia looks like he winters in Grabill.
But I'm pickin' the Cardinals, much as it pains me. Mainly this is because, except for a couple of notable grand slams, the Red Sox got zero hits against Detroit, or so it seemed. The only thing that saved them was the Tigers' ramshackle bullpen (official motto: "Flame on!") which recorded, like, zero outs.
That won't be the case with the Cardinals. So don't look for the kind of late-game heroics that carried the Sox through in the ALCS -- or at least not as many of them.
